Sheryl attracted the attention of wider audience when she became a finalist in the Miller Lite Comedy Search in 1989. Later, she appeared as a frequent performer in the television series “Def Comedy Jam” (1992). Underwood presented the Soul Train Comedy Awards in 1993. A year later, she won her first BET Award in the category of the Funniest Female Comedian on Comic View. In 1997, Sheryl participated in the game show “Make Me Laught”, following which she appeared in the feature films “Bulworth” (1998) directed by Warren Beatty, “I Got the Hook Up” (1998) directed by Michael Martin, “Getting Played” (2005) directed and written by David Silberg and “Beauty Shop” (2005) directed by Bille Woodruff.
