Met Gala 2016 Red Carpet Fashion: Jennifer Hudson Helped Design Her Dress

July 2024 · 2 minute read

Ooh la la!

Celebs interpreted the 2016 Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala 2016’s theme — Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology — in many different ways on Monday, May 2, in NYC. But some stars outshined the others.

Jennifer Hudson looked jaw-dropping in her custom H&M creation with 3-D beading and a 4-foot train, and she even had a hand in it. “Well, I helped design it, so I think it’s the perfect dress for me,” she told Us Weekly video correspondent Christina Garibaldi on the red carpet.

Claire Danes topped Us Weekly‘s best dressed list by literally glowing as she walked the pink, white and red carpet. Her sky blue Zac Posen gown was illuminated with fiber-optic lights.

Instead of giving off light, Kim Kardashian‘s silver Balmain number, which had sexy robot vibes, reflected it. She and hubby Kanye West went in matching ensembles by the brand’s creative director Olivier Rousteing. But West, 38, added a special touch to his ensemble with piercing, ice-blue-colored contacts, jokingly telling Us, “They’re real!”

Plus, see the rest of our star-studded interviews from the red carpet with celebs including Madonna on what she loves about her ensemble, Nicki Minaj and her unconditional trust in Moschino designer Jeremy Scott and Jourdan Dunn, who said her Balmain dress felt like a combination of “body armor” and “robot.”
