Mariah Carey's 'Glitter' Soundtrack Hits Number One On iTunes

July 2024 · 2 minute read

Mariah Carey’s Glitter, a film loosely based on the legendary singer’s life, was critically and commercially panned upon its release. However, thanks to her devoted fans known as the Lambily, there’s no stopping the 2001 film.

The Lambily started the #JusticeForGlitter Twitter hashtag to show their appreciation for the film, and thanks to their devotion, the LP is back on the charts. The album is reportedly at number one on the iTunes album charts.

“As of Wednesday, the album — which retails for $4.99 on iTunes — had reached No. 7 on the album charts,” reports People. “That puts it ahead of new releases by Lil Wayne, Ariana Grande, Travis Scott, John Legend, Drake, and Eminem.” As of Thursday, Glitter has surpassed those albums.

While the songbird distanced herself from the film after its disastrous release, Carey is in full support of the #JusticeForGlitter movement and voiced her appreciation on Twitter.

“I have to dedicate today’s #tbt to Glitter, which is currently #1 on the iTunes albums chart, 17 years after its release and on the eve of my new album release!” she wrote today (Nov. 15). “My fans are THE BEST #JusticeForGlitter!! LET’S GO.”

Other than the great news about Glitter’s soundtrack, the Lambily has some more Mimi-centered excitement to revel in. Her upcoming album Caution drops on Friday (Nov. 16), and she’s recently announced a tour to support her 11th LP. She’s also embarking on a Christmas tour in Europe throughout 2019.
